When The Sun Falls
Some love stories don’t fade. They wait.
You return to the place you thought you’d outgrown only to find the parts of yourself you forgot you left behind.

This is a story about unfinished love, second chances, and the quiet ache of returning home.
Alicia Romano is on the verge of everything she’s worked for—an architect on the rise in San Francisco, in a steady relationship, and finally over her past. Or so she thought.
When her father dies, Alicia’s forced to return to the small town she ran from. What’s supposed to be a quick trip turns into an unexpected detour when a legal snag with the family house traps her in Sunfalls longer than planned—under the same roof as Christopher Parker, her high school sweetheart and the boy who broke her heart ten years ago.
As the days stretch on and the snow piles high, Alicia finds herself navigating old wounds, a surprise proposal back home, a strained reunion with her sister, and the slow return of feelings she thought she’d buried.
What begins as avoidance turns into late-night confessions—muttered with and without words—unresolved glances, and the unshakable question: Was it ever really over?
The End is only the Beginning
When the Sun Falls is a slow-burn, second-chance romance steeped in longing, tension, and nostalgia. Set against the quiet backdrop of a Massachusetts winter, it’s about the ache of what could have been, the pull of home, and the kind of love that lingers quietly—like fading sunlight stretched across pink skies.
This is a story for anyone who’s ever had to leave someone they love behind—in love and in life. And most of all, for those who believe it’s never too late to find your way back.
Meet the Main Characters
Alicia Romano
Alicia Romano is an ambitious 26-year-old architect living in San Francisco—sharp, independent, and determined to stay in control, even when her past knocks on the door. Born in the fictional town of Sunfalls, Massachusetts, she moved to California to attend UC Berkeley after high school and never looked back—until now.
She’s driven, creative, and emotionally guarded, often using sarcasm or deflection as armor. Beneath her cool, composed exterior, Alicia carries a storm of unresolved feelings: guilt over her family, heartbreak from her past with Chris Parker, and a deep fear of being vulnerable again.
She’s used to doing things on her own and doesn’t like asking for help, which makes her return to Sunfalls—and her forced proximity with Chris—all the more unsettling. But Alicia is also resilient and resourceful. Even when she’s shaken, she refuses to crumble. Her journey is one of softening—allowing herself to trust, to reconnect, and maybe, to fall in love again.
Christopher Parker
Christopher Parker is a 28-year-old engineer working at his family’s construction company—a role he was practically born into.
Recently divorced and emotionally raw, Chris is still clinging to a past that never truly let him go. He’s kind and loyal, but burdened by guilt, shame, and years of quiet self-sacrifice.
Steady and quietly intense, Chris is more sensitive than he lets on. He’s the type who takes care of everyone else before himself, even when it costs him. He masks his pain with dry humor, gruff charm, and a stubborn sense of duty. And most of all, his heart is still tangled up in the girl who got away.
“He doesn’t say anything. We both know the answer to that question now, in this bed, in this firelight.”
